Pune's climate puts exterior paint through a fairly demanding cycle each year — intense summer heat, a long monsoon, and dust and pollution build-up in between. The paint that looks good on a colour chart isn't automatically the paint that will hold up to that cycle.
Surface preparation matters more than the paint brand
Most premature exterior paint failures — peeling, flaking, patchy fading — trace back to what happened before the paint was applied, not the product itself. Cracks, old flaking coats, dampness, and fungal growth all need to be addressed first. A weatherproof paint applied over a damp or unprepared wall will fail early regardless of its rating.
Match the paint system to sun and rain exposure
A south- or west-facing wall that takes direct afternoon sun needs stronger UV resistance than a shaded wall. Areas prone to water pooling or splashback need a system with better water resistance. It's worth discussing wall-by-wall exposure with whoever is quoting your project, rather than treating the whole exterior as one uniform specification.
Questions worth asking before you commit
Ask what surface preparation is included, not just the paint brand and shade. Ask how cracks and dampness will be treated. Ask whether the quote includes primer as a separate line item — it should. And ask how many coats are planned; a single topcoat over old, uneven colour rarely gives an even, lasting finish.
