Waterproofing issues are far cheaper to fix before the monsoon than during it. A short inspection ahead of the season can catch problems while they're still small repairs, not emergency ones.
Terrace and roof
Check for hairline cracks, pooling water after rain, and any bubbling or lifting of existing waterproof membrane. Terrace drains should be clear of debris — a blocked outlet is one of the most common causes of water pooling and eventual seepage.
External walls and parapets
Look for cracks around window frames, expansion joints, and parapet walls — these are common seepage entry points that are easy to miss from ground level. Efflorescence (a white, powdery deposit) on a wall is often a sign of moisture already moving through the structure.
Bathrooms and wet areas
Internal waterproofing failures often show up as damp patches or paint bubbling on the wall of the room below or adjacent to a bathroom. If this is already visible, it's worth having it inspected before the monsoon adds to the moisture load.
If you notice any of the above, it's worth getting a proper inspection rather than only repainting over the symptom — a fresh coat of paint over an unresolved leak rarely lasts through a full monsoon.
